Stages of The Physics Olympiad Program
The Physics Olympiad program has five stages:-

The NSEP is an exam that is organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), iand s a multiple-choice exam based on the class 12 physics syllabus. Students who perform well in the NSEP qualify for the INPhO, conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). Top performers from the INPhO move on to the OCSC, where they develop their problem-solving, experimental skills, and theoretical knowledge. The PDT prepares students in all areas of physics for their participation in the IPhO.

IPhO Exam Pattern
The IPhO 2025 will be held in France from 17th July to 25th July 2025. The IPhO includes both theoretical and practical sections. The first section has an objective question which is a theoretical exam. Next, the second phase is a practical exam. Please look out for the exam pattern below: –
Theoretical Exam:
Students have a three-hour exam with five theoretical problems that cover at least four different areas of physics. The questions can be solved using standard high school math and the exam is for 30 marks.
Experimental Exam:
Students take a five-hour exam that involves one or two problems. This exam is for 20 marks, and they can use drawing tools and approved calculators.
Rest Day:
Students get at least one full day to rest between the theoretical and experimental exams.
